Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on securing an agreement with PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko regarding a move next year.
According to a report by Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant, Johan Bakayoko is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a new wide attacker, and the PSV Eindhoven winger is “very close” to agreeing a move to join them. However, the Eredivisie club will demand around €50 million to sell the Belgian international, with the price tag an issue for the Tyneside outfit.
Johan Bakayoko and his career so far
Johan Bakayoko has established himself as one of the best young wingers in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at PSV Eindhoven. A native of Overijse, the young attacking prospect began his youth career at his hometown club. He passed through the academies at half a dozen clubs while graduating from the youth division at PSV Eindhoven.
The 21-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for PSV Eindhoven while chipping in with 27 goals and 22 assists. Bakayoko’s exploits for the Eredivisie outfit have helped him establish a foothold in his national squad, and he has made 18 appearances for Belgium.
Meanwhile, the Belgian international has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe with his progress in the last few seasons. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards next year, with Newcastle United among his prospective suitors.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Johan Bakayoko makes sense. Miguel Almiron faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park, with the Tyneside outfit ready to part ways with him next year. The Paraguay international will create a vacancy in the offensive department at Newcastle United when he departs from St. James’ Park.
So, Bakayoko has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United. The latest report claims that the PSV Eindhoven winger is “very close” to securing an agreement with the Magpies. However, the Eredivisie club’s asking price of €50 million poses a problem for the Tyneside club.
Recent reports have suggested that Newcastle United will face a financial constraint in the bid to sign Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. So, coughing up €50 million might not be possible, with the Premier League outfit hoping to land him for €30 million.
