Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe are preparing for a very challenging January transfer window at Newcastle United.
It is very clear that Newcastle United need reinforcements, with inconsistency plaguing Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle know the lack of new signings has hurt Howe, with the Magpies failing to bring in anyone who strengthens the starting XI during 2024.
It has been reported that Newcastle will prioritise a right winger in January, but any incomings may depend on outgoings.
Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle need to sell before they buy, as they continue to be held back by PSR.

What Eddie Howe has said about Newcastle selling players
With that in mind, it is very interesting what Eddie Howe said about players leaving the club in January after Newcastle’s 3-1 win over Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
“I’m aware of the links and rumours,” he told the Northern Echo.
“I’d love to keep the squad together. I don’t want to lose anybody, we don’t have the biggest squad already so losing players would be very difficult.

“But we do have players returning from injury, the likes of Sven will make a big difference. But certainly losing players isn’t in my thoughts.”
Newcastle need to become better sellers amid PSR problems
While Howe wants to keep his squad together for the second half of the season, Paul Mitchell needs to ensure the club evolves.
To do so, Newcastle need to freshen up their squad. And to do that, Newcastle need to move some players out before they can bring new ones in.
That might not be what Howe wants, but it is what Newcastle United need.
In truth, it would be unwise of Howe to say he is looking to sell some of his players when the transfer window opens. That would not send a very good message and could potentially disrupt the harmony of the squad.
But Newcastle do need to sell. It is something they have been poor at in recent years, and Mitchell knows that needs to change.
There are plenty of candidates to leave St James’ Park next month. It is claimed that Sean Longstaff sees his future elsewhere, while Martin Dubravka has interest from Saudi Arabia. Elsewhere, Miguel Almiron can leave Newcastle United.
