Chelsea extended their winning run on Thursday night with a comfortable victory at home to Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League.

The Blues have now won eight consecutive matches across all competitions as this purple patch of form continues.

Enzo Maresca watched his much-changed side secure a 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers this evening, making it six wins from six in the group stages of the Conference League. As a result, Chelsea have automatically qualified for the competition’s Round of 16, which doesn’t start until March.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall hails Marc Guiu

Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who scored himself in the Shamrock Rovers win, praised his teammate for his midweek performance.

Dewsbury-Hall gave a special mention to Marc Guiu for his remarkable individual display. The 18-year-old Blues striker stole the headlines by scoring three times, which included a fantastic header to complete the hat-trick.

Dewsbury-Hall told TNT Sports 1 (9:57pm, 19 December): “I like Marc. He’s a really honest lad. He’s young and he’s just come from Spain. It can be tough for a player.

“You’ve seen with the goals, I’ve never seen anyone press like him. He doesn’t slow down. He nicked one tonight from that. He’ll keep working hard. You forget how young he is. He’s only 18. I’m happy he got his hat-trick he deserves it.”

Joe Cole thinks Chelsea’s Guiu can become a “big star” after being impressed by his latest performance at home to Shamrock Rovers.

Marc Guiu a secret weapon for the Premier League

Nicolas Jackson certainly isn’t budging as Chelsea’s first-choice striker in the near future. Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku is trying to apply some pressure as his understudy.

However, the energy and enthusiasm of Guiu could become a useful bench option for Chelsea in the Premier League, especially during such a busy period.

So far this season, Guiu’s only made one appearance in the league, which came on the opening day against Manchester City. Let’s see if he gets some top-flight minutes in any of the games in the next few weeks.

Axel Disasi described Chelsea’s Guiu as a “young talent”, and his confidence will be very high after tonight’s hat-trick.
