Liverpool will take on Tottenham in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup as they seek to retain their crown.

Arsenal will face Newcastle in the other last four tie ahead of the season's first piece of silverware being handed out at Wembley in mid-March.

The holders saw off Southampton on Wednesday night and were left to wait for 24 hours before learning their fate as Manchester United and Tottenham played out the final last eight tie with the north Londoners emerging as victors.

Arsenal came from behind to see off Crystal Palace at the Emirates, owing to a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick. Newcastle also secured safe passage to the semi-finals with a relatively routine win over Brentford that saw Sandro Tonali grab two of their three goals at St James' Park.

Liverpool's success in this tournament 12 months ago proved to be Jurgen Klopp's final honour in charge of the Reds before he departed. Arne Slot has begun his tenure impressively and will want to land silverware in his first season.

Thursday night's winners Tottenham are seeking to end a lengthy wait for a trophy which dates back to their success in this tournament 16 years ago. They were able to burst United's bubble after a nervous evening in north London that saw seven goals fly in.

Arsenal meanwhile need a trophy to justify their outlay and the forward strides they've made under Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard, despite all his good work, hasn't claimed a trophy since the FA Cup he won back in 2020.

Finalists from two seasons ago, Newcastle are seeking to land the first major honour of their Saudi ownership. Eddie Howe's side have remained inconsistent this term but success in this tournament could provide the springboard the team are seeking.

The two-legged semi-finals will see one match take place in early January with the return fixture the following month.
