Celtic are reportedly considering a January move for Kieran Tierney. The 27-year-old started for Arsenal against Crystal Palace in the League Cup on Wednesday evening but in the hours after Tierney’s first start since May 2023, it was reported that Arsenal would not be extending Tierney’s contract.
The decision by Arsenal to not trigger an extension of Tierney’s contract means that the Scotland Internationalist will be free to leave the club in the summer. Tierney will be able to speak to non-English clubs in January, which has resulted in strong links to a return to Celtic.
As reported by [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13276472/kieran-tierney-celtic-explore-return-for-arsenal-and-scotland-left-back-who-joined-gunners-in-2019), Celtic are exploring an option to sign Tierney in January.
The report says that Celtic are exploring a pre-contract for Tierney as well as a loan move that would see the player return to the club next month. Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the Scotland International, who was a key figure during his first spell at the club.
Tierney would require to be managed given his recent injury issues and Brendan is the man to do that. The quality of Tierney across the backline would improve the defence and solve the dilemma at left back. Greg Taylor’s contract expires in the summer as does Alex Valle’s loan. In an ideal world, Tierney would be signed alongside a prospect fullback who would supplement the aggressive left back.
