Liverpool did not have an easy game last night by any means as they faced Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Yet, it wasn’t the toughest of encounters either as a second-string Reds side saw off the Saints with 2-1 score line.
One of the heroes on the was Harvey Elliott, and we so good, even a former Southampton legend could not deprive him of his flowers.

In a recent appearance on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, former Southampton fullback Francis Benali was full of praises for Harvey Elliott after the latter’s goal-scoring heroics sealed Liverpool’s qualification for the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
“The goal has come from Liverpool’s left-hand side. They have been a threat there for the whole game. Harvey Elliott’s first touch was excellent and the deflection makes all the difference and gives the visitors a 2-0 lead.”

The goal against Saints was Elliot’s first of the season, his first in five appearances across all appearances this season.
Elliott’s overall record for Liverpool stands thus: 11 goals and 14 assists in 124 appearances.

Elliott’s current numbers for Liverpool may be underwhelming for now, but keep in mind that he’s just 21 and yet he’s in his sixth year at Liverpool.
This is a player that arrived in the limelight very early on and has already had a serious long-term injury. Even this season he’s just returning from a broken foot. Yet, he has not relapsed and is showing signs of promise.
We have seen with the likes of Martin Ødegaard and his Real Madrid chapter that, even if sometimes it looks like a player that looked very promising in their mid-teens aren’t reaching the heights expected of them, they can still get good if given the proper care. That’s what Elliott needs at Liverpool at the moment, and he has all the ingredients to come good on his early promise.
