Newcastle United may have to lean on their academy a touch more often going forward.
Indeed, with potential transfers into the club looking unlikely ahead of the January transfer window, Eddie Howe could always look to the youth ranks for internal solutions.
Clearly, that is not ideal for a club who want to be challenging for Champions League qualification. Having a deep squad full of experienced players would surely help matters on that front.
Still, that is not the reality in which Newcastle appear to be operating in right now, such are the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns on Tyneside.
The Newcastle United academy has not always been the most productive for the first-team but a pathway has recently been opened.
Andy Caroll was always arguably seen as the leading light to have emerged from it in the relatively modern era, although Paul Dummett deserves a mention too.
The Longstaff brothers then cut their teeth at first-team level and that is where Sean at least remains. Last season’s emergence of the brilliant Lewis Miley was another great boost.

Now, it seems as if the Newcastle United manager is paying even greater attention to the youth ranks.

Eddie Howe spending more time with the Newcastle academy
According to The Daily Mail, Howe has been a more frequent visitor to the club’s academy games this season.
In fact, his visits are said to have excited and encouraged those in the academy, who have seen the likes of Miley shine under his watch.
Who are Newcastle’s best academy players?
Interestingly, Lewis and Jamie Miley’s brother Mason is said to be impressing coaches at U18 level with his performances as a defensive midfielder.
Ben Parkinson is another who got first-team minutes last season, while Trevan Sanusi, Charlie McArthur, Leo Shahar and Cathal Heffernan are other talents reportedly shining at youth level.
Clearly, it’s difficult to imagine them all making it but it’s promising to see the youth ranks seemingly so well stocked.
