Everton only have one more outstanding charge after The Friedkin Group takeover, The Esk shares.
Of the 76 charges listed against the Toffees on Companies House, only one remains outstanding after Dan Friedkin officially took over the Merseyside outfit from Farhad Moshiri.
While the Friedkins may have potentially borrowed more money, the Blues are debt-free but still have the charge of security against debt with Metro Bank — which is not unusual for football clubs to have.
On his personal X account [19 December], The Esk wrote: “Everton now only have one outstanding charge (security against debt) with our bankers Metro — this is standard for banks and football clubs.
“Effectively, the football club is debt-free (The Friedkins may have borrowed money but not via the club).”
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Everton step into new era with The Friedkin Group takeover
The Goodison faithful will hope for things to change after some abysmal years under Moshiri.
With the British-Iranian businessman at the helm, the Toffees went backwards season after season and have now become a team fighting relegation battles.
The Goodison faithful will be pleased to see the back of Moshiri but will want the Friedkins to work diligently in order to turn things around.
Everton will move to their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock at the start of next season, and it would be embarrassing for them to do so in the Championship.
The Blues are 16th in the Premier League table and have tough fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City next.
While it’s encouraging that the Merseyside outfit are not shackled by debt anymore, the cycle can easily repeat itself if TFG mismanage how the Toffees are run in the next few years.
The Goodison faithful will surely have cautious optimism going into this new chapter.
