‘This is a mega story’: Aaron Lennon says Everton snubbed a £2m deal for ‘world class’ player…

Everton have had their fair share of transfer mishaps over recent years with some decent money spent on players who haven’t provided much in return.

Sean Dyche will now be hoping for better results following the takeover on Merseyside as The Friedkin Group now have the keys to the club.

Jamie Carragher criticised Dyche for not using his new signings from the summer with only Iliman Ndiaye really making an impact.

Questions could well be asked about the club’s recruitment with the money spent in the summer not having much of a positive effect on the side.

And it seems as if there is one deal which was passed up on by Farhad Moshiri that could have transformed Everton with the addition of a future superstar.

Farhad Moshiri passed on £3m Everton deal for Erling Haaland

Everton are enduring some issues with their strikers currently as fans have criticised Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form this season.

It could have been so much different for the Toffees with former winger Aaron Lennon saying how he met Erling Haaland during the striker’s tour of Finch Farm.

“This is a mega story, this. I remember Erling Haaland walking in the building with Steve Walsh coming up to me in the physio room and Steve Walsh introduced him to me, like: ‘Look Aaron we’ve Haaland, you know his dad, Alfie. The Leeds boy? Hopefully we’re going to have him here’,” said Lennon.

“And I was like: ‘Oh wow’. I hadn’t heard much of him. I think he was like 15 or 16 years old and never seen him again. And I think they could have had him for £2m/£3m.

“I think Moshiri didn’t sign off on that.”

It is not just poor form which Everton are experiencing issues with their strikers as injuries, contracts and potential January exits are all concerns for Dyche.

Beto could leave Everton in the January window, but fortunately, the Toffees have just seen Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti return from their long-term issues.

Erling Haaland’s record vs Everton

Since signing for Manchester City, the Norwegian’s goal record has been nothing short of incredible with Pep Guardiola hailing Haaland as ‘world-class’.

And he has been able to provide a staggering return against the Toffees in his few games against Dyche’s side.

Moshiri has made one final Everton request having now sold the club on to The Friedkin Group as he wants to see in the new stadium.

Many will appreciate the effort the former owner put into getting the Bramley-Moore Dock site off the ground, however, this is a clear example of his failings whilst on Merseyside.
