Reading manager Noel Hunt has confirmed that the club are in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Chem Campbell over the possibility of extending his loan deal.

The 21-year-old, who has made eight appearances for the Old Gold to date, has nine goal contributions to his name so far this season but is only under contract until January 5.

The EFL only cleared his arrival on deadline day due to the expectation that Rob Couhig was to takeover, something which did not happen and is now leading to the 75-year-old filing a lawsuit against the club.

A regular since arriving, Campbell has improved throughout the campaign and is regularly one of the top performers for the Royals.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Lincoln City, Hunt explained that discussions are being had over any possible options.

"We are trying," Hunt said. "We like Chem, he’s a great kid. He is an important player for us. We’re going to try and keep everyone as much as we possibly can over the January window.

"Brian \[Carey\] has been in talks with Wolves, Chem and his team. It is important that we try and get this resolved as quickly as possible."

Reading are under a transfer embargo as their financial accounts, which were due in June, remain outstanding.
