Newcastle United have work to do in the January transfer window.
Indeed, this has been an underwhelming start to the season for Eddie Howe’s side, and Newcastle will want to bolster their ranks in the coming weeks.
Newcastle’s priority heading into January is clear. Newcastle want a centre-back and a right winger.
Marc Guehi has been linked to Newcastle, while Johan Bakayoko is a target for Eddie Howe’s side.
However, there is a player in another position who’d happily sign for Newcastle this winter.
Indeed, according to Josh Hughes, speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Newcastle would be favourites to sign Leif Davis from Ipswich if they decided to make a move for him.

Newcastle could sign Leif Davis
The journalist spoke about Davis and his situation at Ipswich.
Hughes urged Tottenham to make a move for the £1.5m left-back, but he noted that Newcastle would easily be able to beat Spurs to this signing, noting that the defender is a big Newcastle fan.
“Onto players that I like and I think we should be targeting. Leif Davis at Ipswich, one goal and two assists this season, he has a wicked left foot, he would fit the bill,” Hughes said.
“However, he’s Newcastle mad. He’s from Newcastle, he’s a Newcastle fan, if Newcastle have a sniff there’s only one place he will be going, but I like him.”
Newcastle fans who play for the club
Newcastle have a real history of signing players who are boyhood fans of the club, and Davis may well be the next player on that list.
Going all the way back to Alan Shearer, Newcastle have always liked bringing in a player with actual ties to Tyneside.
In fact, there are a number of players in the squad right now who actually supported the club as kids.

Of course, you shouldn’t just sign a player because they’re a fan of your club, but having that built-in connection to the shirt does help a player add that extra percentage or two to their performance.
Davis isn’t just a fan though, he’s also a top player who is proving himself at a Premier League level with his good performances for Ipswich this season.
Newcastle don’t have the most depth at left-back beyond Lewis Hall, so perhaps the Magpies should look into this deal.
