Sky Sports has confirmed that while Southampton continue their plea to replace Russell Martin, Simon Rusk will take charge against Fulham.
Southampton U21 coach Simon Rusk has stepped up to fill the void left by Russell Martin's sacking, as he has taken charge of Southampton on an interim basis. He already has one game under his belt, overseeing the Saints narrowly lose to Liverpool in midweek.
Simon Rusk is like Russell Martin in the sense of presenting himself well. He comes across as a very likeable guy with a great personality when speaking to the media. Therefore, we hope he remains the U21 coach for a long time.
Sky Sports reveal Simon Rusk will manage Southampton against Fulham
According to Sky Sports, Simon Rusk is set to keep his place on the touchline as Southampton take on Fulham in the Premier League this weekend. This is despite the club actively seeking a full-time replacement for Russell Martin.
In their own words, Sky Sports News' Mark McAdam and Rob Dorsett said: "Interim Saints boss Simon Rusk is set to remain in charge for this weekend's Premier League game away at Fulham as the search continues to replace Russell Martin."
Sky then went on to explain that there is a search ongoing to replace Russell Martin. They listed Carlos Corberan and Kasper Hjulmand as two names on their potential list of replacements.
So, Southampton fans should not expect any news in the immediate future about who will replace Russell Martin. If Simon Rusk is set to be on the touchline this weekend, this means that the fans should get behind the interim manager to secure a positive result for the new manager to build on.
Of course, this is a period of mere confusion for Southampton fans. That said, the Saints faithful has been in worse positions than this one.
It can be frustrating when decisions like this take time. However, it would be much worse if the decision was rushed, which would only leave fans wishing Martin was never given his marching orders.
