Newcastle United will be without Joelinton against Ipswich Town this weekend.
The 28-year-old suffered an injury during Newcastle’s win over Brentford, with Joelinton forced off at half-time. He was replaced by Joe Willock.
Joelinton was left in a heap after a collision with Brentford defender Nathan Collins. An arm followed by a boot to the face left him bloodied, with the Brazilian furious after getting to his feet.
Now Eddie Howe has provided an update on Joelinton’s condition, even though it has no baring on his availability this weekend. Joelinton is suspended for the Ipswich Town game, after picking up his fifth booking of the season during Newcastle’s win over Leicester.

But as Newcastle enter the busy festive period, Toon fans will be hoping that suspension is the only thing that rules Joelinton out of action.
Thankfully, the latest update from Eddie Howe during his pre-match press conference suggests that will be the case.
“He’s a little bit battered and bruised,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.
“He’s had a few stitches, I believe. There was a bit around the area of the ear which was quite delicate and he had a cut mouth I think.

“Probably him not being available this weekend is probably a good thing for him because it allows him to rest those bruises and wounds and then hopefully be fully fixed.”
Joelinton was right to be angry
As Howe says, it is probably ideal that Joelinton is suspended for this weekend’s game at Portman Road.
That means he can rest and recover after what was a nasty looking incident. Joelinton had to go get stitches after the game, which resulted in him missing Newcastle’s post-victory photo in the dressing room.
You could see how angry Joelinton was after what happened. He had to be held back, with Dan Burn ushering the £40million man to calm down as he received treatment on the touchline.
Who could replace Joelinton against Ipswich
With Joelinton set to miss the game against Ipswich, Howe will be forced to change his starting XI.
There are three candidates to replace the Magpies’ number seven, with Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Lewis Miley waiting in reserve.
Geordie Boot Boys have predicted that Sean Longstaff will start for Newcastle, after he missed the Carabao Cup win over Brentford due to suspension.
Given the fact Newcastle are away from home, it feels more likely that Howe will opt for the solidity that Longstaff brings. On top of that, Willock is a better option to have on the bench as an impact player.
As for Miley, he is yet to make his first Premier League appearance of the season.
