It will not be just another annual meet for the fans of the European football giant FC Barcelona who will converge here in the city on Saturday (December 21, 2024).
For, the year holds special significance for the fans as their beloved club celebrated its 125th anniversary on November 29. Penya Del Barça Kerala, the second fans’ association to be recognised by FC Barcelona in India and the first in South India, decided to celebrate the milestone along with their day-long annual meet to be held at Renewal Centre at Kaloor on Saturday (December 21, 2024). District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya will be the chief guest.
The event was originally planned to be held in August but was postponed in the wake of the Wayanad landslide. “Currently, we are the sole active fan base of the club in India and our programme has been featured on the club’s website as well. We will release a special edition jersey for fans to mark the special occasion of the club” said Dan George, executive committee member, Penya Del Barca Kerala.
Penya Del Barca Kerala was officially recognised by FC Barcelona in 2021 and has since been organising annual events, including La Fiesta Meet, which brings together fans and members. The organisation currently has over 300 members.
The 125th-anniversary celebration will feature a day-long event, starting at 9:30 a.m. After a meet-and-greet session of fans, an interaction has been scheduled with selected sports journalists. This will be followed by a five-a-side football tournament among the fans at the turf DNA in Kaloor.
