Arne Slot
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has taken over from Jurgen Klopp seamlessly
Arne Slot has made such a big impression at Liverpool that some players are said to have suggested his methods could have turned some of their 'nearly moments' into triumphs.
The Dutchman, 46, was plucked from Feyenoord in the summer to replace Jurgen Klopp, who stood down from his role after almost nine years at the helm following the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
Klopp become Kop royalty during his tenure, winning both the Champions League and the Premier League, ending Liverpool's 30-year wait for a domestic title. But they also came agonisingly close to landing those prizes on more than one occasion.
It's now been claimed, via a new report from The Athletic, that 'at least three players' have indicated Slot and his methods would have 'served the team well' on those occasions.

While that may come as a surprise given how successful and highly thought of Klopp was at Liverpool, Slot has adapted to life as the Reds new head coach seamlessly.
Part of that, of course, is down to the fact that his predecessor left him with the building blocks necessary to challenge for honours, with Liverpool currently two points clear at the Premier League summit with a game-in-hand on second-placed Chelsea.
The report also carries comments from an unnamed director of one of Liverpool's 'leading Premier League rivals. They said: “Everyone in the game is so impressed with him.
“He’s likeable, staggeringly understated and cool as hell. I’ve been as amazed at the success of him, as like many others. I thought Jurgen would be an extremely tough manager to follow but this man is handling himself so well.”

While Slot has made a significant impression after losing just one of his first 15 Premier League games, the man himself is not getting carried away.
Speaking last month after watching his side open up a five-point lead at the Premier League summit, he said: “I don’t talk about favourites. It is boring but I just talk about the next game which is a challenge in itself. I have said many times that in the Premier League the margins are very small. That is true all season.
“Last season I followed the league and there was a moment when City were eight points behind Arsenal so there is no use in getting carried away at all at this moment in time. These teams like City, Arsenal and Chelsea and even [Manchester] United and all the others are able to put together a run of games like we did.
“So we are not getting carried away at all and looking at it like you just said in terms of favourites or whatever. The players know what they have to do to win a game, and it’s a lot. If they could give 50 percent less and still win, maybe we would think we have 50 percent extra in the tank and not need to give our maximum for results. But we know it has been a close call in many games.”
