‘Shrugged it off’: TNT Sports pundit can’t believe how brave Chelsea player was in 5-1 Conference League win

Chelsea made lightwork of their final opponents in the Conference League group stages to round off a perfect start to their European campaign.

Enzo Maresca will have been well aware of the quality Shamrock Rovers possess, given that before tonight they were one of only three teams who had not been beaten yet in the competition.

Chelsea put an end to that with a 5-1 victory, in a game where recent first team additions Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George both started.

A number of players looked to make an impression on the manager. Noni Madueke sent a message to the boss that he should be starting against Everton on Sunday.

Marc Guiu praised for bravery in Chelsea win over Shamrock Rovers

Maresca will have been most impressed by Marc Guiu, who made himself the top scorer in the competition with a hat-trick last night.

Six goals for a teenager in Europe is nothing to complain about, with Marc Cucurella one of the players full of praise for Guiu after the game.

His first goal showed the desire he has to break into the first team on a more regular basis. The striker intercepted a misguided header back towards goal to nod home himself.

He collided with the post in the process, however was up quickly to celebrate his goal, leaving Don Hutchinson impressed at his bravery.

He said to TNT Sports: “He’s leading the line well, and what he does look to me, it looks like he’s brave. The goal that he got tonight when he bounced off the post looked pretty naughty and nasty and he sort of shrugged it off.

“He’s led the line for Chelsea in this competition and his attitude has been really good.”

Guiu ‘unhappy’ at Chelsea

Enzo Maresca said that Guiu had been unhappy recently due to his lack of opportunities to star at Chelsea so far.

It has been difficult for anyone to displace Nicolas Jackson up top this season, with Christopher Nkunku struggling to feature in the Premier League.

However, the Spaniard has proven that he has everything it takes to make it at Stamford Bridge, and could be in for a big future if he gets the appropriate opportunities.
