West Ham could sign PAOK striker Stefanos Tzimas in January with Niclas Fullkrug “very upset” with his situation at the London Stadium, according to Christian Falk.

The BILD journalist reported via The Daily Briefing on Friday (20 December) that Tzimas, 18, has a £14.9million (€18m) release clause in his contract at Greek club PAOK.

It is understood that Nurnberg, where the Greece Under-21s international is currently on loan, cannot afford that but West Ham are keen on signing him due to Fullkrug, 31, being unhappy in East London since his summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Falk says that Juventus could sign Fullkrug in the upcoming winter transfer window, which would open the door for a move to sign Tzimas.

“I heard West Ham is also interested in Stefanos Tzimas, which makes sense given that Niclas Füllkrug is very upset with his situation over in London,” said the German journalist.

“There may be an opportunity for him to sign for Juventus in the winter. This could be a good move – Tzimas to West Ham and Füllkrug to Juventus. It’s not concrete at the moment, but it’s an idea.”

Will West Ham sell Fullkrug in January?

It’s fair to say that Fullkrug’s time at the London Stadium hasn’t quite worked out the way many would have imagined.

The 31-year-old joined the Irons in the summer after scoring 16 goals in all competitions and helping Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final last season.

However, the Germany international is yet to really make a mark in the Premier League.

After a serious ankle injury that kept him sidelined for the Hammers throughout September, October, and November, he returned to Julen Lopetegui’s side with a goal against Leicester.

But since then, he’s been left on the bench in a win over Wolves and was only given 34 minutes off the bench against Bournemouth.

It would be quite a knee-jerk reaction to get rid of him at the first available opportunity but Tzimas is on fire on his loan spell at Nurnberg and he’s obviously someone much better suited for the Irons going forward due to his age.
