The left-back has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, which has led to speculation about his long-term future.
It’s believed that Arsenal won’t be looking to extend his contract past the summer, opening the door for a January exit.
Tierney’s latest setback came on Tuesday night when he was forced off during Arsenal’s cup match against Crystal Palace. However, Lennon believes the issue may not be too serious, hinting it could have been just a bout of cramp.
Lennon acknowledged Tierney’s undeniable talent but expressed concerns about the defender’s current physical condition: [PLZ]
“He went off injured on Tuesday night, but it might have just been cramp.
“Listen, if Kieran was available, you’d have to sign him. I just wonder about what strength and condition he is at the moment. There’s no doubting his quality as a player.
“He’s on high money as well at Arsenal, but I’m sure he’s desperate to go out and play regularly, but he’s had such a difficult time with injuries.”
These remarks point out the dilemma facing Brendan Rodgers and Celtic. While Tierney’s quality and passion for the club are undisputed, his injury record remains a cause for concern.
Tierney is reported to earn a substantial salary at Arsenal, making any potential return a complex deal unless the player and both clubs can come to a suitable arrangement, such as a loan deal with a partial wage contribution.
If Celtic were to secure Tierney’s return, the move would address a critical need in the squad. The left-back position has been a point of contention this season, with Greg Taylor facing inconsistency and an expiring contract, Valle only at Celtic on loan and Alexandro Bernabei out on loan and unlikely to return as a viable long-term option.
Tierney’s familiarity with Celtic’s expectations, combined with his defensive solidity and attacking prowess, would provide Rodgers with a reliable solution at a crucial time.
The potential for Champions League knockout matches and a demanding domestic schedule make depth in this position a priority.
