It has been a mixed 2024/25 Premier League campaign for Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta and as we near the New Year and the re-opening of the January transfer window, we are sat in third place in the top flight table and we need a significant uplift in our goalscoring form if we are to close the gap to top spot in the second half of the campaign.
Transfer window rumour mill speculation is never far from the Emirates Stadium and naturally at this time of the year rumours and claims in the media always suffer a spike, and one of the latest links to do the rounds this week is Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume.
The 22 year old French Under 21 international initially progressed through Sochaux’s youth ranks before making the move to Italian Serie A side Inter Milan for the next stage of his career, but after a successful loan spell with the La Liga side, he made the permanent move to Sevilla only last summer, but he has slowly begun really making a name for himself in the Spanish top flight.

The young lad has already drawn some comparisons to Paul Pogba due to his build, versatility and general talents, and only last week it was being reported that Barcelona were one of the clubs that had sent scouts to watch him more closely in their game with Atletico Madrid, but it is being suggested that his dream move would be to the Premier League and as we have already expressed our interest in him, we are reportedly in pole position for his signature should Sevilla be open to a sale and want to cash in on him.
There is no real talk of a potential transfer valuation that the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium outfit hold on him, but given they paid Inter Milan 4 million Euros for him roughly six months ago, as a low ballpark we would have to be into the realms of £15-20 million easily as a tempting quick uplift for them to capitalise on.
With Thomas Partey and Jorginho making their way to the end of their careers, and let us not forget that both are also out of contract at the end of the current campaign, it is believed that someone of Agoume’s talent would naturally be their long term replacements as we looked to the future and whether or not this holds any relevance, Agoume shares the same agent as William Saliba, so that may play to our advantage here as well if we have a real interest.
Either way, we will soon find out.
