Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell are likely to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The duo have struggled to break into Maresca’s plans this season and have failed to play a single minute in the Premier League between them. Chilwell was informed he did not feature in the club’s plans in the summer but failed to secure a transfer from Stamford Bridge.
The left-back will now assess his options in January as he looks to reignite his career after an injury-plagued period in West London. Chukwuemeka has also failed to win a regular role since his arrival from Aston Villa in 2022. The 21-year-old has made a handful of appearances in cup competition this season but is open to an exit in search of regular first-team football.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Everton this weekend, Maresca confirmed the pair are likely to leave.
“There are players that unfortunately didn’t play a lot with us in all the competitions, like Chilwell, like Carney.
“Probably they’re the first that will want to leave because they work every day because they want to play. If they don’t play probably they are thinking to leave.
“Each player has a different situation so we’ll see if anyone knocks the door and says I want to leave. We’ll try to find a solution.”
