Chelsealegend John Obi Mikel backed Enzo Maresca to succeed at Chelsea. At the same time, he explained why Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t do the same. As of now, the Blues are soaring in the Premier League. Things could hardly be any better for them. Moreover, they have also managed to keep a 100% record in the UECL. They are into the knockout stages as table toppers. Furthermore, they are playing with confidence. Key players are back in form. The team looks to be stable. Unfortunately, same hasn’t been the case in previous years. The struggle was quite apparent. Even last season, they were far-off from their best.
Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino
The Argentine man took over the London job after managing PSG. Things here were very different. This was no star-studded lineup. Also, the league was far more competitive. Any manager was bound to have a hard time. He did have a rocky start to life at Chelsea. But things managed to pick up at the back end of the season. Nonetheless, it still wouldn’t work out as he ended leaving the club. As per wikipedia, he had a 50.98% win rate with the Blues. Former player John Obi Mikel revealed how Enzo Maresca was able to do a better job than the Argentine.
John Obi Mikel is all praise for Enzo Maresca
Talking on his podcast, John Obi Mikel talked about Maresca and his impact at Chelsea. He would emphasize by saying that the club has an identity now. He stated that they have a way of playing and a philosophy on how to do things. Every player has a proper game plan and they know what they are doing. He would say that everyone ran as ‘headless chickens‘ when playing under Mauricio Pochettino. That might not be very subtle from the former player. But the stats and the results speak for themselves. As per now, Maresca has a 69.23% win rate.
🎙️John Obi Mikel hails Maresca’s impact: "We have an identity for how we want to play now; we have a philosophy.
Every player knows what he's doing on the pitch; that's something we didn't have under Pochettino. Everyone was running around like headless chickens."
