Conor Gallagher makes claim about Chelsea being in a Premier League title race after they sold him

Chelsea being in a far better place this season in comparison to last is perhaps even more impressive when taking into account they lost one of their best performers over the summer.

Conor Gallagher was seen as undroppable by Mauricio Pochettino last season, captaining the Blues on many occasions.

He formed a very impressive midfield pairing with Moises Caicedo towards the end of the prior campaign, however this did not stop the Blues seeming to be desperate to part ways with him over the summer.

Conor Gallagher not surprised Chelsea are in title race

He eventually got his move to Atletico Madrid, with Joao Felix coming the other way to return to Stamford Bridge.

All the talk surrounding the Blues right now is about whether they now find themselves in a title race in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca is insistent they are not in a fight for the title, however being two points behind leaders Liverpool makes it difficult to keep up that claim.

Gallagher has said that he is not surprised the Blues find themselves in a race for the title, and he is delighted to see them doing just that.

He said to ESPN FC: “I think so [matter of time]. I think the way Chelsea ended the season last season we were winning many games, and the team had a lot of confidence.

“They brought in some more players and the manager seems to have been brilliant and they’re performing very well. So it doesn’t surprise me, and I’m very happy for them.”

Chelsea’s midfield starring without Gallagher

Caicedo has somehow improved even further this season, with him now in the debate of being the best midfielder in England.

His performance levels have been matched in recent weeks by Enzo Fernandez, who has been contributing to goals in a similar way to how Gallagher did when he was at the club.

They have been kept on their toes by the impressive performances of Romeo Lavia as well, although he is still suffering from the odd injury this season.
