Dele Alli claims it is the “right time” to leave Everton because he wants to “turn a new page” in his career.

Alli is quitting Merseyside to train with Cesc Fabregas’ Como in Serie A and he hopes the move will help him get his career back on track. The former England and Tottenham midfielder’s contract at Everton ended in July and he had been training with the Blues with the prospect of landing a new short-term agreement.

Alli, 28, who joined Everton on a free from Tottenham in January 2022, last played for the Blues under previous boss Frank Lampard in August that year and he has continued to be blighted by repeated injuries. He went to watch Como at the weekend and has been invited to train with them by former Arsenal legend Fabregas, who is in charge of the Italian side.

And Alli, who last played on loan at Besiktas in February 2023, has told Everton he wants to take up Fabregas’ offer as he battles to save his career. He wrote on Instagram: “As widely published this week, 2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities.

“Before any of that happens it’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am of all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.

"It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness and I cannot thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they have put into this process.

“Unfortunately things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped and I think it is the right time to for me to turn a new page. I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck and hopefully we will see each other again very soon.”

Sean Dyche only has had good things to say about Alli and wished him well. He feels he has made progress with his recovery and that he will soon play again. “The major point we agreed as a collective was to get him back to a good place and I think he’s there,” said the Everton boss.

“He’s just had so much misfortune with niggly injuries which have carried on. You couldn’t imagine it, the challenges he’s had. We wish him well and I think that’s the best we can do. He’s been nothing but an ease for me to work with. The medical team worked tirelessly with him and we wish him well.”
