Jadon Sancho has appeared to defend Marcus Rashford after retweeting a post that showed Ian Wright back the Manchester United forward. Rashford, 27, has come under fire this week after admitting in an interview that he is 'ready for a new challenge' after 19 years at United.
"It's disheartening to be left out of a Derby, but it's happened, we won the game so let's move on," he told journalist Henry Winter. "It's disappointing but I'm also someone as I've got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I'm available. For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person."
Rashford's comments came a matter of days after he was left out of the United squad - alongside Alejandro Garnacho - to face Manchester City. Garnacho was back in the United fold for the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham, but Rashford once again wasn't part of the travelling contingent.
And former Arsenal forward Wright has jumped to the defence of Rashford, who has started to be written off by some as his United future remains uncertain. Wright said on Instagram: "I got to Arsenal at 28, but you expect ME to write off someone with the ability Marcus has at 27!!!! So many of you are desperate to see these young people fail so that you can say you were right! You would take 1% of the career Marcus has had!"
After those quotes was used in an ESPN social media post on X, formerly of Twitter, Sancho then decided to retweet what Wright had to say, hinting that he is fully behind his United teammate. He also replied to the post to show his agreement.
Rashford could follow Sancho out of the exit route at United. Sancho left United on loan in the summer to join Chelsea and he has impressed since his move to Stamford Bridge. He scored his first goal for the Blues against Southampton earlier this month before backing that up with a fine finish in a 4-1 win at Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Amorim confirmed on Wednesday that he wasn't sure what he was going to do with forward Rashford. He said: "I would speak with the manager. It’s hard to explain what I am going to do. I'm a little bit emotional. I need to prepare for the game and then we will see. Let’s focus on the team, not individual players."
