Everton rejects Jamie Carragher request for new stadium after Gary Neville prank

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher

Carragher's name won't be appearing on the Everton Way

Jamie Carragher's name will not be appearing on the Everton Way at the Toffees' new stadium after it was rejected by the club.

Gary Neville jokingly bought a stone to go on the walkway at Bramley Moore Dock, which contained the words 'Jamie Carragher Forever A Blue', for the ex-Liverpool defender as a Secret Santa gift, and presented it to him during a recent episode of Sky Bet's Stick to Football.

However, Carragher shared a message that he received from Neville on his Instagram story on Friday, which read: "Hi Carra, someone at Everton got in touch with me this morning and unfortunately the brick for Everton Way has been rejected. They've dropped this (the stone) off at mine though... not sure if you still want it."

Carragher was famously an Everton fan growing up, but slowly switched allegiances as his playing career with Liverpool progressed.

Carragher previously told FourFourTwo magazine about the moment he realized he no longer was an Everton fan. “It was in 1999, when I was a Liverpool player and we’d been beaten by Manchester United in an FA Cup tie. It was a lunchtime kick-off, and later that afternoon I met some of my friends for a few drinks down the pub – the same one I’d watched Arsenal beat Liverpool in 10 years earlier.

“It was full of Evertonians who were absolutely delighted Liverpool had lost, and it really annoyed me. Before then I’d become indifferent to Everton’s results, but from that day on I wanted them to get beat!
