Preview: Crystal Palace v Arsenal

We’re off to Selhurst Park for our second game of the week against Crystal Palace at 5.30pm on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick helped us beat the Eagles 3-2 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

We’re now looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Everton.

PALACE NO PUSHOVERS

Oliver Glasner’s side gave as good as they got on Wednesday, contributing to an exhilarating contest in N5.

Jean-Philippe Mateta showed his strength to give the visitors the lead early on, and Hale End Academy graduate Eddie Nketiah headed past David Raya with five minutes to go.

Palace are 15th in the Premier League with 16 points from 16 games and were five games unbeaten in all competitions prior to our win over them in midweek.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Arteta: “Obviously, we played recently and analysed them, so we don’t have to do that too much, I’m sure that both teams will adjust a few things and probably change some personnel as well.

"Apart from that, the difficulty of the game remains the same - we know what it’s like to go to Selhurst Park and we have prepared for that."

Glasner: “We could see the quality of Arsenal. We could see especially in the second half of how quick you can move the ball, making the runs, how accurate they can pass in the gaps and so we have to talk to the players and we talked about it.

"From these games you can learn a lot and playing against the top teams, of course, it hurts when you lose and are out of the Cup, but it's also a big chance to learn and improve and it's the best thing we can show it now within three days. I don't expect 30 percent improvement within these three days but in some parts a little bit, and then we want to get a better result."

TEAM NEWS

Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori are both available to be in the squad, and Oleksandr Zinchenko could be as well.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu with their respective knee injuries will miss out.

Eberechi Eze will miss out for Palace, with Oliver Glasner saying in his pre-match press conference: “He got a hit against Brighton on his foot. He played with quite a swollen foot at the Emirates and also got the next kick there, so he is not 100%."

Daniel Munoz is still serving a suspension after picking up five yellow cards in the Premier League

Joel Ward (calf), Franco Umeh-Chibueze (hamstring), Adam Wharton (groin), Matheus França de Oliveira (groin), and Chadi Riad Dnanou (lack of match fitness) remain unavailable.

FACTS AND STATS

We are unbeaten in all nine of our Premier League London derby matches in 2024 (W7 D2). The last team to go unbeaten in such matches in a full calendar year were Chelsea in 2005 (W9 D1), while the last time we did so was in 2004 (W7 D3).

Excluding penalties, we have scored more set-piece goals than any other side in the Premier League this season (9). Meanwhile, 35% of Crystal Palace’s 17 Premier League goals this term have come from set-pieces (excluding penalties), with only Everton (57%) netting a higher such share.

No team has had more Premier League goals scored via defenders this season than us (7, level with Manchester City), while Crystal Palace have had the highest share of their Premier League goals this term come from defenders (29% - 5/17).

Gabriel Martinelli has scored more Premier League goals against Crystal Palace than he has vs any other opponent (5). Three of these have been as a substitute, with no Gunners player scoring more from the bench against a specific opponent in the competition.

PREVIOUSLY AT SELHURST PARK

We have fond memories of our last trip to Crystal Palace, where a Martin Odegaard penalty saw us beat the Eagles 1-0 in August 2023.

It wasn’t all plain sailing though, as Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off with two yellow cards.
