'They are awkward': Chris Sutton predicts the score for Everton vs Chelsea in the Premier League

Two of the Premier League’s ever-presents meet on Sunday afternoon when Everton host Chelsea at Goodison Park.

Chelsea’s final match before Christmas is a Premier League trip to face Everton this weekend.

Enzo Maresca admits Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia is unlikely to play against Everton as he continues to recover from his injury. However, the Blues have looked formidable in midfield with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo recently.

The strength of the Chelsea squad is definitely one of the biggest pluses at Stamford Bridge this season, especially because Maresca is rotating superbly well between the league and cup competitions.

Chris Sutton predicts Everton vs Chelsea

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has tipped Chelsea to come away with three points and a win at Everton on Sunday.

“Sean Dyche’s Everton side are not tearing up any trees but they showed in the draw at Arsenal how resolute they are – they are awkward and difficult to break down,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“Even so, you can’t back against Chelsea right now, with the confidence they are playing with and the winning run they are on…

“Sutton’s prediction: 1-2.”

While Chelsea are pushing towards the very top of the league table, Everton are near the bottom, only three points above the relegation zone.

Everton boss Sean Dyche has praised Chelsea ahead of Sunday’s league showdown, where both teams will want a positive result to take into Christmas.

Chelsea must cope without key player

Marc Cucurella’s needless sending off in last weekend’s league win over Brentford means he’s suspended for the Everton match.

Chelsea’s Renato Veiga is likely to get a huge chance against Everton to fill the void at left-back, but how will the Blues cope without such an influential figure?

Cucurella, 26, has had to overcome poor form and major criticism during his Chelsea career. However, his confidence should now be at an all-time high because he’s flying right now in the starting line-up.

The left-back has started in 13 of the club’s 16 league matches so far this season, where he’s really excelled as an inverted full-back. His absence from the team sheet against Everton is definitely a significant blow.
