Troy Deeney has taken an unnecessary and frankly inaccurate swipe at Newcastle.
The former Watford forward has joined Gabby Agbonlahor in slandering the region and player’s motives for living in a city so far from London.
Delusional Deeney has turned his hand to punditry after failing as Forest Green manager – he was shocked at his sacking despite a four-match ban in his second game, failing to record a win in his tenure, and publicly slaughtering his players – the Birmingham-born man’s complete lack of self-reflection has once again come to light.
Deeney has returned to the land of make believe as he perpetuates the myth that Newcastle will struggle to attract top talent based on location alone.
Speaking as a guest on CBS Sports Golazo last night, he said: “(Newcastke is) right at the top of the country. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but it’s not a desirable place to go and live because you’re so far away from London. It’s like four or five hours.
“It’s difficult to get people there, to get investment there, but they’re going to have to do it. They must have known it before they bought it because these guys are not stupid people.”
It didn’t stop us signing Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman; four star players with young families who’ve said nothing but great things about the region, praising the people, our beautiful city and coastline; something you won’t find anywhere by the bright lights of London!
Howe has already been forced to address this tired old nonsense before. “Since I’ve been here, I’ve never experienced someone not wanting to come here because of the area where the club is situated,” said the gaffer earlier this year.
“It’s trying to sell the complete package to players because football for me has to be the most important thing. If a player is thinking about other things, maybe they’re not the right fit for us.”
Deeney, along with fellow Brummie Agbonlahor who said: “players don’t want to live in Newcastle, let’s be honest,” in 2021, haven’t a clue what they’re talking about – see the international stars who have signed on Tyneside if you have any doubt.
Players have switched from Milan and Madrid to the Quayside Market, and recent performances can give no doubt they play for the badge.
