"Liverpool Are Still In The Race, If They Want Him" Journalist Claims Reds Could Hijack United Summer Transfer

Liverpool are still in contention to snap up Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

The Canadian international can speak to clubs about a pre-contract agreement at the start of next month and, writing in his Daily Briefing column, Falk said there is still a chance the Reds could beat the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid to the player’s signature:

“His agent, Nick Huoseh, will talk with any interested top club in the new year. When Huoseh is on his tour of England, Liverpool could get a meeting with him. It would be a good club for Davies, of course, given they play a style of football that would suit him. Liverpool, naturally, have a chance.”

“I think Manchester United and Real Madrid are more concrete by comparison at this point in time. Bayern are also applying pressure to sign him up to a new contract. They’re still hopeful about making this work. So, Liverpool are still in the race, if they want him.”

Davies would be a perfect addition for Liverpool

A new left-back will be one of the priorities for sporting director Richard Hughes heading into next year. Andy Robertson turns 31 before the end of the season and his form has begun to decline.

At 24 years of age, Davies would be the ideal replacement. He is also very attack-minded and has pace to burn, making him a good fit for Arne Slot’s system.

Competition for the player is fierce

As Falk mentions, Manchester United and Real Madrid are currently in pole position to sign the defender, while Bayern Munich could yet reach an agreement over a new deal. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

With that being the case, it won’t be an easy transfer to pull off, especially if Davies has sky-high wage demands, but the fact that he is available on a free transfer makes him a very attractive target.
