Newcastle United are back in Premier League action this weekend

Newcastle United have the chance to bolster their ranks in the upcoming January transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well should they wish to.

The Toon Army are back in Premier League action this weekend with an away trip to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town following their 3-1 win over Brentford in the Carabao Cup last time out. Here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours regarding the club....

Target latest

Southampton will be forced to sell Newcastle target Tyler Dibling next summer if they were relegated to the Championship, as per Football Insider. The Saints are bottom of the table and have decided to sack Russell Martin following their poor run of form. Transfer expect Mike Brown has said: “When you go down, and let’s assume for the sake of this argument that they do, you have to cut a lot of costs and sometimes that means losing your best players. Because you can’t pay them the wages they’ll be demanding, and the money that will potentially be on offer can benefit the club in other ways.

“You lose a lot of money when you’re relegated and often need to find ways to bring more in. When you’ve got a young player with a high value, there are always going to be interested clubs like Man United or Newcastle who think ‘Yep, we’ll take him.’ You end up in the process of trying to cut costs while the player’s agent is trying to make more money. The outcome of that is, for the good of the club, they have to let him go.”

The Saints are likely to face a battle to keep hold of Dibling down the line, regardless of what league they are in. The 18-year-old has a bright future ahead of him in the game and has become a key player for the Hampshire outfit. He has made 23 appearances for Southampton in all competitions so far, 18 of which have come in this campaign, and he has chipped in with a single goal. The teenager has also had spells in the past at Exeter City and Chelsea.

Winger latest

Daniel Campos, who is Miguel Almiron’s agent, has said his client wants to ‘stay’ in Europe. The winger has fallen out of favour with the Toon Army over recent times and his future is up in the air at Newcastle. Camps has said, as per La Union AM’s Futbol Club (via Sport Witness): “There was a specific offer from Saudi Arabia, but Miguel Almirón didn’t want to go, I always prioritise sporting matters. They always call me from that market, I tell them that it is a good offer and there we will chat with Miguel.

“Newcastle changed the sporting direction of the club and there is no urgency to sell, if there are possibilities, we will see. He went through many cycles at the club and he is an idol. Miguel knows that if there is something, we will listen to him. It was the same coach who kept him when there were proposals, Newcastle are asking a high value for him. Miguel wants to stay in Europe, he succeeded there, he has more than 230 games in the Premier League. Everyone wants to get there, he had the opportunity, and he knows how difficult it is.”
