Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reacts after hearing Everton takeover news

Focus at Everton now has to return to the action on the pitch this weekend following a busy couple of days at the club.

After months of talks, The Friedkin Group have finally got their takeover across the line as they now hold the keys to Goodison Park.

The first game of their regime will take place on Thursday with the Friedkins in attendance for Everton’s clash against Chelsea.

But the new owners will be well aware of Everton’s difficult position in the Premier League as they sit 16th in the table.

Going into the game, the Chelsea manager has now provided his thoughts on whether the takeover news will provide the Toffees with a boost.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reacts to Everton takeover

Just last week, Mikel Arteta reacted to the Everton takeover speculation – as it was at the time – where he wished his former side all the success.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game against Everton, Maresca has shared his thoughts on the new coming out of Merseyside.

“I don’t know if the new owners for them can be something good or bad. For sure, not bad, so probably can be something good,” Maresca said.

“When I met the owners, like at Leicester or here, I just tried to be myself, honest with them, to be clear since the first meeting we had and no more than that.”

Dyche has already spoken to Marc Watts on Friday to discuss the Friedkins’ position on him and the coaching staff.

But the 53-year-old will be focused on the task at hand on the weekend against a Chelsea side who are in red hot form.

Chelsea have a dreadful record at Goodison Park

Oddly enough, the title challengers are arriving on Merseyside this weekend with a really poor record at Goodison Park of late.

Maresca addressed the record as he prepares for his first and last-ever trip to Goodison as a manager.

“No, it’s something that I didn’t know, to be honest. Hopefully we can go there and beat them. For sure, it will be a tough game, but we’re going to try to prepare for the game in the best way we can,” he responded.

“The target is always the same: prepare the game to win the game and then we see. Everton’s stadium is not tough only for Chelsea. It’s tough for any club.”

Simon Jordan has been impressed by The Friedkin Group but it is apparent they have a lot of work to do to get the club back to where they want to be.

And what a way to start their ownership it would be to take three points on Sunday.
