£50m star who Newcastle United want says he’s the fastest in the Premier League

Newcastle United already have some incredibly quick players.

Alexander Isak is electric, while Joe Willock is rapid in and out of possession.

Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon is England’s fastest player according to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers – even quicker than Kyle Walker.

Interestingly, Harvey Barnes has been Newcastle’s fastest player this season.

But as Newcastle aim to sign a new right winger in January, Eddie Howe could add even more pace to his squad.

Newcastle United failed to sign Anthony Elanga on transfer deadline day, but could go back in for the Sweden international.

It has been reported that Newcastle could target Elanga again in January, with the Nottingham Forest attacker still on the Magpies’ radar.

Signing the 22-year-old probably would not excite the Toon Army, but Elanga would certainly bring additional speed to Eddie Howe’s attack.

That is according to the man himself, who has told the Athletic that he believes he is the fastest player in the Premier League right now.

“I’d go as far as saying I am the fastest in the Premier League,” he said.

Elanga to Newcastle feels unlikely

With Elanga on the right, Gordon on the left and Isak through the middle, Newcastle United would have ridiculous pace. Their speed would cause any defence issues.

But while Sky Sports claim Newcastle offered £50million for Elanga in the summer, a fresh move in January 2025 feels unlikely.

That is because Paul Mitchell wants Newcastle to move away from signing Premier League players. They cost too much money, with the sporting director keen to look more at younger players from overseas.

While Elanga is talented, he would be incredibly overpriced at £50million, at a time when Newcastle are hamstrung by PSR.

The Magpies will likely look further afield, with Newcastle interested in Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven.
