Arsenal winger now expected to leave in 2025

Reiss Nelson is expected to leave Arsenal at the end of the season despite still holding a contract until 2027, according to a report.

Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Reiss Nelson is expected to leave Arsenal permanently at the end of the season, with a growing sense that he’ll end his association with the club before his contract’s 2027 expiry date.

Mokbel suggests it’s clear that Nelson doesn’t have much chance of regular football under Mikel Arteta, and there is an acceptance that a departure would be best for all parties.

As it stands, Nelson is on loan with Premier League side Fulham, but it seems he’s set for another move at the end of the season.

In general, Nelson’s loan to Fulham had started pretty well, up until the week before last.

The winger had to fight for a starting spot, making six consecutive substitute appearances in the Premier League until he earned his first start. But he then kept his spot in the team for the following five games.

Unfortunately, Nelson suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton on December 5th, and he’s expected to be out for 10 weeks.

The timing was hugely frustrating, with Fulham preparing to take the winger off before the injury, and Nelson ineligible for the subsequent game against parent club Arsenal.

If he’d been replaced a few minutes earlier, he would have had a nice rest at the weekend, and the odds of a hamstring setback would decrease significantly. But that’s not how it played out, and he’s now not expected back until mid-February.

Arsenal will hope for a strong return to form for the winger when he recovers, but it seems that will be more about increasing his value for the summer window than preparing him for pre-season with the Gunners in 2025.
