Jurgen Klopp has appeared to aim a subtle dig as he enjoys a "winter break" months after leaving Liverpool. Klopp left his role as Reds manager at the end of last season after almost nine years in the Anfield dugout, winning seven major trophies along the way.

Arne Slot replaced Klopp as Liverpool's new head coach in the summer and has been enjoying an impressive start to life on Merseyside. The Reds are top of the Premier League and Champions League tables and have reached the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

The month of December will have seen Liverpool play nine matches across three competitions. January will also see Slot get his first taste of the FA Cup when the Reds host Accrington Stanley in the third round.

December and January is one of the busiest times of the football calendar in English football, but that is not the case across Europe. Before becoming Liverpool manager, Klopp would have been accustomed to enjoying a winter break during his time at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz, something he has not experienced for a decade until this year.

Klopp has been enjoying a skiing holiday in Lech Zurs, Austria, and issued a message on social media to wish his followers a happy Christmas. The former Liverpool boss also referenced the first winter break he's been able to enjoy away from football since before his time at Anfield.

"So, last day of skiing, in Lech Zurs. Thank you," said Klopp in his native German tongue, in a video posted on Instagram.

"It was great! Simply great! We had everything. Enough snow and more snow is to come. Very good news for everyone.

"We had sun and perfect slopes. We had a good evening. We had good food. So yes, it was good!

"I am very happy that I was able to do this, after all these years without a winter break. That's something different.

"Okay, I wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2025. Maybe it will be the best year of our lives. Bye!"

The message from Klopp comes less than two weeks before the former Liverpool boss begins his first job since leaving Anfield. Klopp will begin his role with Red Bull on January 1 where he will work as their Head of Global Soccer.
