Sean Dyche has confirmed that Dwight McNeil could miss out when Everton host Chelsea on Sunday.
The former Burnley winger has been the Blues standout player so far this season but was forced to miss the 0-0 draw with Arsenal (14 December) with a knee injury.
The Toffees will likely be without the 25-year-old for the clash with Enzo Maresca’s side on 22 December after Dyche confirmed that he is “touch and go”.
However, this setback could allow Jesper Lindstrom to step up and finally make the impact that the Blues were expecting when they brought him in on loan.
Lindstrom needs to perform or Everton could get rid
Expectations had been slightly dampened when the 24-year-old arrived at Goodison Park after a poor spell on loan at Napoli, where the Danish winger failed to notch a single goal contribution in 29 matches.

However, there was hope that he revert to his 2022/23 season form when he notched a total of 13 contributions in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt in 38 matches.
That has not been the case, in 11 appearances for the Blues, the former Brondby man has not scored or assisted yet.

With the Toffees being just three points above the relegation zone and struggling to score goals, they need their attacking talents to make an impact.
They cannot afford to carry passengers in the team, especially if they are dragged back into a relegation struggle.
Lindstrom could find his loan terminated in January if he does not take his opportunity to impress.
In other Everton news, David Moyes shared a ‘disappointing’ relegation prediction that Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker agreed with.
