BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bernardo Silva has resigned as Head Coach of Cal State Bakersfield Women's Soccer after leading the Roadrunners for two seasons. Silva accepted a similar position at another institution.
CSUB Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Kyle Conder will begin a national search for the next leader of the Roadrunners in the near future, looking to continue the momentum built over the past two years.
"We appreciate Bernardo's contributions to our program. He helped elevate CSUB Women's Soccer in many ways. The best contribution he made was empowering our student-athletes to realize their full potential. Our student-athletes continue to make great progress toward our vision of Pursuing Championships and Graduating Leaders."
Silva's exit comes after a pair of seasons in Bakersfield. Hired in July of 2023, Silva set out to rebuild a program that had won seven matches over the previous two seasons combined. The 2024 season featured Silva's first full year of recruiting, scheduling, and coaching and the `Runner women posted eight wins on the year.
The current Bakersfield squad's two biggest victories of the season came in the Big West Championship as the `Runners gritted their way to the Championship Game, a first for CSUB Athletics as members of the league. CSUB came up one penalty kick conversion short of winning the Big West Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
"What a pleasure it has been to be the head coach of the women's soccer program at this fantastic institution," Silva said of CSUB. "My time here has far exceeded my expectations, and I am incredibly grateful for the unforgettable memories and experiences. A special thanks to Athletic Director Kyle Conder and the administrative staff at CSUB for believing in me to lead the program to what proved to be a historic season for the Athletics Department."
The CSUB women's soccer team will await a new head coach, who will inherit a talented and experienced squad of `Runners. Stay tuned for news from CSUB Athletics on the upcoming national search for the next leader of the women's soccer program.
