Wojciech Szczęsny has answered questions from the media about the fact that he has yet to play for FC Barcelona.
Asked when he would be making his debut, the Polish goalkeeper said: “You know what, I don’t know.
“I told you from the beginning that I first have to get back in shape and that was the most important thing, now I feel fully ready to play, when it comes to mental and physical preparation.
Iñaki Peña has started 18 UEFA Champions League and La Liga matches since an injury forced Marc-André ter Stegen off the pitch. Szczęsny was signed after he had previously retired, and while some expected the Polish keeper would challenge for the starting job, that has not been the case.
For his part, Szczęsny revealed that he agrees with the decision to keep Peña as the starter.
“I don’t hide the fact that if I were the coach of this club, I would play exactly the same number of matches as I have played so far. So it would be hard for me to be frustrated with a situation that I 100% agree with,” he said.
Some have speculated the goalkeeper could mark his debut in the Copa del Rey, which starts on January 4th.
