Cherries travel to Old Trafford aiming to repeat last season's heroics: Preview

Andoni Iraola’s side beat their hosts 3-0 last December in AFC Bournemouth’s first ever win at the Theatre of Dreams.

The situation in the Premier League this season shows contrasting performances from last term – Ruben Amorim’s United sit 13th while the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) are sixth and hoping to build on their fantastic start to the season.

The Daily Echo previews the trip to Manchester.

Andoni Iraola will have the same options to pick from on Sunday as he did last Monday, with no new injuries or players returning from spells out.

They will be without long-term absentees Alex Scott, Julian Araujo, Luis Sinisterra, Marcos Senesi and Marcus Tavernier.

Luke Shaw is set to be out, too, while Victor Lindelof is a doubt for the Red Devils.

**Head-to-Head**

The Cherries have had some famous days against Manchester United in their history, the 2-0 win in the FA Cup in 1984 and the 1-1 draw in 1989, also in the cup.

Overall, though, it is the Red Devils that have the better record against the Cherries, winning 14 of the 22 meetings between the sides, while Bournemouth have won four.

But Iraola’s men were unbeaten against United last season, after the brilliant win in Manchester and a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium in April.

In the return fixture, Bournemouth led twice through Solanke and Justin Kluivert, but they were twice pegged back, thanks to two Bruno Fernandes goals.

The second United goal came from a controversial penalty for an Adam Smith handball.

The Cherries thought they had an opportunity to secure the points at the death with a spot kick of their own, only for VAR to rule that a foul on Ryan Christie had come outside the box.

**Last Time Out**

Bournemouth come into the game off the back of a draw with West Ham on Monday night.

After a scrappy first half, the Cherries looked the more likely side to take the lead in the second period.

But VAR called referee Chris Kavanagh to the monitor after an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross which flicked the hand of Tyler Adams, with Lucas Paqueta stroking home the resulting penalty in the 87th minute.

_(Image: PA)_ Three minutes later, though, the Cherries were back level.

Substitute Enes Unal won a free kick around 25 yards out and the Turkish striker stepped up and struck the set piece into the top corner.

Manchester United, meanwhile, secured a brilliant 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium over their neighbours City last weekend.

They were trailing with 88 minutes on the clock, but a Bruno Fernandes penalty and an Amad Diallo goal in the 90th minute completed a remarkable comeback for Amorim’s side.

But the Red Devils were also in action in midweek in the Carabao Cup, crashing out of the competition after a dramatic 4-3 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
