Terras 'a sleeping giant' - Feeney talks staying up and winning philosophy

The former AFC Bournemouth forward was announced as the club's new first team manager on Tuesday becoming the long term replacement for Mark Molesley.

In an interview with the Echo, the new Terras boss has talked about why he chose Weymouth, staying up and his philosophy on football.

He said: "I love a challenge and I know the area well. It has always been a good club and one that I have respected.

"It is a sleeping giant and I am looking forward to getting started. I am not going to say I can wave a magic wand but I have kept sides up and went on to win the league in Bulgaria."

He added: "There is a lot of football to be played and I will do my best to get out of the position we are in.

"I have got to get the players confidence up and it is a tough league, so we will need everyone around the place together."

The new Terras boss also said he has seen 'a lot' of Weymouth play this season and believes the club's players are 'good enough to stay up' and that it is a 'fresh start' for the players.

One question asked of Feeney ahead of the weekend's tie with Chelmsford City was how he will approach the game tactically and what style of football he will bring to the club.

(Image: Mark Cunningham) He added: "I think everyone knows it is not rocket science. Everyone likes to have a style but we need to win games so it might have to be ugly at times.

"It is okay to play football the right way but it is a results business and that is what we have got to do - get results.

"My philosophy is to win and it's a winning philosophy that I am bringing here. I have to get the mentality right with the players and if they don't run - they won't play. I like my players to be fit."

Feeney also said that he will be looking at bringing in his own coaching staff but the focus was to get the game with Chelmsford out of the way first and said the club already have 'good staff'.

Fans will get to see Feeney's team in action for the first time on Saturday, December 21 when the Terras travel to Chelmsford City in the National League South.
