Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Jermaine Beckford has hit out at Dominic Calvert-Lewin after being unimpressed by his performances for Everton this season.
The former striker believes the England international is in a comfort zone on Merseyside and is not giving his 100 per cent for the Toffees anymore.
Beckford is, therefore, of the view that a move away from Goodison Park might be the best option for both the club and the player.
“Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been at the club for a long, long time and without realising it, I think he’s getting comfortable”, he said on BBC’s The Football News Show (20 December).
“That’s a scary and dangerous place to be because you don’t realise you’re not giving 100 per cent every single week, you feel like you are, but you’re not doing the things that you used to do.
“There used to be a naivety about the movement, about the energy, about the challenges that he put.
“He has been injured quite a bit and maybe that’s a part of it, but I do feel like he does need more of a challenge from the players that are around him and maybe even a change of scenery as well, just to keep himself on his toes, to get the best of himself, to believe in himself just that little bit more.”
Sean Dyche continues to trust Calvert-Lewin despite Everton struggles
Calvert-Lewin is set to enter the final six months of his deal at Goodison Park and there are no signs that a contract renewal is on the cards, although that could change now that The Friedkin Group have come into power [TEAMtalk].
Sean Dyche has, nevertheless, continued to trust the 27-year-old as his first-choice number nine, starting him in all but one of Everton’s 15 Premier League games this season.
However, Calvert-Lewin’s performances have left much to be desired, having bagged only two goals and an assist so far.
It is, therefore, easy to see why fans and pundits are growing frustrated with the former Sheffield United man.
He can start discussing a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting in January and it is not a good position for the Toffees to be in.

Fiorentina have been credited with an interest in signing Calvert-Lewin from the Premier League club and could make an attempt to sign him in the January transfer window, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (20 December).
It remains to be seen if Dyche’s side would rather sell him for a cut-price fee or keep him in the squad as they look to avoid relegation.
