As the January transfer window approaches, many are recalling the Arsenal defender’s comments from April this year, when he left the door open for a future reunion with his boyhood club.
Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, Tierney reflected warmly on his connection with Celtic when asked about the possibility of donning the Hoops again.
When asked if he would one day return to the club, the former Celtic left-back responded with a smile and said:
“Who knows?
“You never know in football, it’s a connection that I will always have and it’s somewhere I will imagine I will always be linked with if I were to move from any club.
“So, you know never know.”
While Tierney didn’t explicitly confirm any plans to return, his comments reflect the deep bond he still feels with Celtic, a club where he rose through the ranks and won multiple honours before departing for Arsenal in a £25m move in 2019.
The 27-year-old has endured a challenging few seasons in London due to injuries and tactical shifts under Mikel Arteta. This has only fuelled speculation that a return to Celtic Park could reignite his career and help him find consistent playing time.
As reports swirl about Celtic’s potential interest in Tierney this January—either on loan or as part of a pre-contract deal—fans will be hoping his affection for the club and his roots in Glasgow could play a pivotal role in luring him back.
For now, Tierney’s “Who knows?” remains a tantalizing hint of what could be.
