Andy Robertson is a modern Liverpool legend. The Scotland international has won every major honour with the Reds since joining the club from Hull City back in 2017.

Admittedly, his recent performances have been the subject of scrutiny, while he endured an injury-plagued 2023/24 campaign. But that takes nothing away from what the left-back has already achieved at Anfield, with Champions League and Premier League triumphs in 2019 and 2020 particular highlights.

The 30-year-old has made 318 appearances for Liverpool to date, returning 11 goals and 66 assists. Consequently, despite representing Queen’s Park, Dundee United and Hull City prior to his switch to Anfield, it is inevitably the Reds who the Scot is synonymous with.

However, Robertson could have easily ended up playing for Liverpool’s local-rivals, Everton, instead of the Reds. Meanwhile, former Blues and Manchester United manager David Moyes also once came close to signing the left-back.

“Obviously in the January I had a bit of interest. Everton tried,” he revealed to Premier League stories when recalling his eventual move to England with Hull in July 2014. “Everton tried to bid for me and loan me back to Dundee United.

“I knew there was Premier League interest, but yeah, I just didn’t think about it, I just lived in the moment and didn’t really think too far ahead.”

Meanwhile, Moyes recently revealed that he later tried to bring Robertson to Sunderland in the 2016/17 season - only months before the Scot’s £8m move to Liverpool.

“Andy Robertson, if you remember, left Scotland, Queen’s Park, to go to Hull City,” Moyes recalled on The Overlap podcast earlier this year. “I actually thought I’d done a deal to get him to come to Sunderland.

“I was the manager at Sunderland at the time, and I met his agents and tried to sort out a deal to get him to come from Hull to Sunderland, but at that time, Hull and Sunderland were both near the bottom of the league and in competition, so we didn’t get him. But there’s a million hard luck stories in football.”
