£11m star set for Everton audition vs Chelsea with The Friedkin Group in the stands - opinion

Despite all the noise over Everton’s takeover being completed on Thursday, there is actually a game going on this weekend at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side will kick off their new chapter against Chelsea as they look to keep their improved form going.

Everton go into the game on the back of two solid results against Wolves and Arsenal, but face a red hot Chelsea.

The Friedkin Group have shown Dyche their support since landing on Merseyside, which will encourage the 53-year-old ahead of the January window.

However, there are some players at the club who will now be playing for their future with more promising times ahead for the club.

Jack Harrison has to improve or faces Everton exit

It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Jack Harrison with the winger still on loan at Goodison from Leeds United.

Everton fans have criticised the £11m Harrison for his displays this season, which have seen him drop out of the starting XI on a regular basis.

A start on Sunday against Chelsea could offer the 28-year-old a huge opportunity to impress the new regime.

Harrison has failed to score or assist at all this season which has been synonymous of Everton’s struggles in attack.

Everton are not looking to send Harrison back to Leeds in January, but Sunday could certainly be a big moment towards deciding where his future may lie beyond the summer.

The Friedkin Group will be watching from the stands on Sunday and they will want to see players they feel can take the club forward.

Dwight McNeil injury latest

In a surprise twist last Saturday, Dwight McNeil missed the Arsenal game through injury after struggling throughout the week.

Everton lacked any real attacking threat against the Gunners, but they were able to survive without the Englishman.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Dyche did not sound too optimistic that McNeil was ready to make his return against Chelsea.

“Dwight is probably going to be touch-and-go. He’s got a niggly knee that we’re being careful with, so we’re hopeful but we’ll have to wait and see.”

And this is why Sunday offers such a big opportunity for Harrison with McNeil’s potential absence handing him another chance in the starting XI.

Dyche suggested Harrison may regret his pre-season comments on his ambitious targets, now is his chance to prove everyone wrong.
