Boss opens up and speaks about possible deal with Arsenal for departing fullback

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has responded to the question that he could sign ARSENAL star Kieran Tierney in the January window, as the full-back looks certain to leave the Emirates over the next few weeks.

Tierney has recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained playing for Scotland at Euro 2024 in June and made his first appearance of the season in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday

The 27-year-old left his boyhood club to join the Gunners in 2019 but has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta in recent seasons and with his contract is due to expire next summer, there has been alot of speculation about his future.

However, when asked about rumours of a possible reunion with Tierney this afternoon, Rodgers remained tight-lipped and refused to discuss specific transfer targets: ‘Kieran is someone I know really well but there will be lots of players linked with coming to Celtic,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘We will never speak about a player, especially a young player who is at another club. But we’ve got work to do, we know that. We want to improve the squad further in a number of key areas.

‘But until that happens, the players we’ve got here have been working so well and we’ll just continue to work with them and see what happens in January.’

Rodgers may not want to admit it, but there is a chance that Tierney will end up back at Celtic in the January window, he looks certain to leave Arsenal. His time at Arsenal have just been plagued by injuries.

Many ARSENAL fans will be disappointed to see that he never quite fulfilled his potential at the Emirates, but know that it is the right time to part ways with the player.
