Unwanted complications are something that FC Barcelona have grown rather accustomed to in recent years. Such are the details in the world of football that must be cared for, and any kind of misstep can be dangerous. For that reason, Barcelona are taking each and every step carefully.
Currently, one of the most pressing issues for the club is the registration of players such as Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. Both new summer signings are currently registered and eligible to play, but they are at risk of becoming free agents in January if their registrations are not sustained.
So far, there was a temporary solution that allowed both players to be registered until the January transfer window due to some intricacies that the club played around. Now, however, there needs to be an absolute solution that takes this problem away once and for all.
Unfortunately, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has delivered some bad news himself. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, he has confirmed that neither player can be registered as of right now and that the club has had some issues with La Liga and has even filed a lawsuit over this dispute:
“It’s true that this year we said we would reach a 1-to-1 ratio to register Olmo and Pau Víctor, but we wanted to go to the market to have more options. They told us that the contracts would count if we signed with Nike, but now they are only considering the contract improvement. We have filed a lawsuit.“
The aftermath of this entire issue is yet to be seen, but it will likely be an interesting development. However, time is not on Barça’s side, given that the Catalan club desperately need to register both players and their continuity is vitally important for the future of this season.
