Real Madrid clear the way for Liverpool star arrival

But now another link has emerged - Football Transfers are reporting that Real Madrid are trying to secure the services of club captain Virgil van Dijk.

Why are Real Madrid aiming for Van Dijk?

The report states that Madrid are prepared to part ways with both Eder Militao and David Alaba as the two centre-backs have been unfortunately injury-prone.

Militao is now on his second ACL tear in the past two years, whilst Alaba has been out since this time last year with that same injury.

As a result, they are looking for a legitimate replacement, having scoured the free agent market well over the past few years (Alaba himself was a free pickup, as was Kylian Mbappe).

But as Anfield Watch exclusively reported, Liverpool have an agreement in place with Van Dijk on a contract extension, as his agent is telling other interested parties that he is no longer attainable, and are waiting for it to be signed.

Madrid will be insistent as they truly believe they can make any deal happen, but Van Dijk’s commitment to the club as a captain, as well as Liverpool’s dominant status in European football right now would make any deal difficult for the Spanish giants.

Reds all around the world are waiting with bated breath for any and all news on the contract status of club captain Van Dijk, as well as Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But what is clear is that these players are still world-beating and anyone would be lucky to secure their services.
