Crystal Palace suffered a heavy defeat against London rivals Arsenal, losing in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The Eagles have now lost back-to-back games against the Gunners, losing 3-2 in midweek in the Carabao Cup clash as well.
Gabriel Jesus scored an early goal for the visitors, but Crystal Palace restored parity shortly through Ismaila Sarr with a cracking finish.
Jamie Carragher was heavily impressed by the effort and hailed it as “absolutely outstanding” while co-commentating on the game for Sky Sports.
The 26-year-old carried the ball forward into the box and then placed it into the far corner beyond the wide-stretched arms of David Raya.
Carragher said on Sky Sports: “That is absolutely outstanding from Crystal Palace and Sarr.
“It’s a really good pass and Saliba then drops off and doesn’t do enough to block the shot. Sarr uses him and bends the ball around him. What a start to the game we have had.”
Crystal Palace failed to take their chances
Jesus scored twice, while Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice also scored for the Gunners to secure all three points.
To be fair, Palace matched their rivals toe-to-toe for most part of the game, but they should have defended better. The Eagles failed to take their chances in crucial moments, and credit should go to Raya for making some fantastic saves.
At 2-1, Palace had a great opportunity to come back into the game when Sarr passed the ball to Jean-Philippe Mateta inside the box. The Frenchman only managed to hit Raya from close range.
In the second half, when the score was 3-1, Sarr missed two fantastic opportunities to pull one back. In both cases, he couldn’t direct his header onto the net.
Palace completely gave up after they conceded the fourth goal. Oliver Glasner said after the game that his side lacked the belief to come back into the game.
Also, they were missing a bit of quality in the final third. Daichi Kamada replaced Eberechi Eze in the starting line-up, but he has failed to make a big impact.
