Sean Dyche makes feelings clear on outgoing Everton owner Farhad Moshiri

Sean Dyche claims former owner Farhad Moshiri should be remembered fondly by Everton fans because he was the driving force behind their new stadium.

Moshiri sold his 94.1 per cent stake in the Blues to The Friedkin Group (TFG), ending his near nine-year ownership of the club.

The supporters are glad he has gone and initially he spent wildly in the transfer market before Everton were deducted eight points last season for breaching the Premier League ’s PSR.

The Blues have also spent the last couple of seasons fighting relegation and fans hope TFG will usher in a new period of stability.

But Dyche defended Moshiri, who appointed him in January 2023, and says he played a leading role in making their new Bramley Moore Dock home a reality.

“I must mention Mr Moshiri,” said the Everton boss. “I must say, he was nothing but good for me personally, he was very fair minded with me.

“You know, whatever people think, he was a big, big force behind getting the new stadium and I think that needs to be mentioned.

“I know there have been some challenges and some opinions, of course I do. But I can only speak for myself and since I’ve been at the club, he’s been supportive.

“For what he’s done, in the bigger picture, one day, he will probably be looked upon as being another new beginning for the club, but we’ll wait and see. But certainly in terms of the stadium, I think it’s fair to mention his support and drive to make that happen.”

Dyche hopes fans will buy into TFG’s vision for the club and get behind the team against Chelsea at Goodison Park.

“Yeah, of course I hope that happens,” he said. “I think all Evertonains will see it brings some kind of stability and a way forwards.

“I hope it brings a positive feel. We’re trying to do that through the team, of course, and results, but it’s a nice backdrop if the club seemingly is in a stable position.”

Dyche does not expect Chelsea to add to the carnival atmosphere and he is full of respect for the way Enzo Maresca has transformed them in his short spell in charge.

Chelsea could go top today if they win and Liverpool lose after finishing sixth last season, 28 points behind champions Manchester City.

“The manager has done a great job,” said Dyche. “I think he made it clear, you either get on board or you don’t and the ones on board are going to be the ones that take us forward.

“That’s created a team atmosphere and a dynamic which is working well for them. “We know that they spent so much money over the years, but you still got to combine it into an outfit that can be successful. There are certainly signs of that.

“Our job is to stop them, to concentrate on our own form and we had our sixth clean sheet at Arsenal which is a good sign.”
