Aston Villa suffered a fresh injury blow before the 2-1 win over Manchester City.
Unai Emery has revealed Diego Carlos was absent from the matchday squad to face Man City due to a minor impact injury sustained in training.

“He has a small pain for a kick he received in a training session,” Emery admitted to Birmingham World. “Yesterday we tried to train with him, but he couldn’t train. I think with more days resting, today and tomorrow, he will be available for the next match in Newcastle.”
There’s no guarantee Carlos will feature away at St. James’ Park on Boxing Day but the likelihood is he’ll be up for selection. The Brazilian’s presence would’ve been handy against City as Matty Cash received an early booking and Carlos coming on would’ve allowed Ezri Konsa to cover at right-back.

In terms of other injury news, Jacob Ramsey is progressing but not expected to be back until the new year while Tyrone Mings and Leon Bailey both returned to the bench against City after brief spells out through illness.
