Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga says he‘s been getting secret advice from a Tottenham…

Nottingham Forest beat Brentford on Saturday to briefly climb to third in the Premier League table.

For Anthony Elanga it was a case of deja vu as he scored for the second successive week to get Forest on track for a third successive victory.

Brian Laws hailed Nuno Espirito Santo for his tactical tweak that saw Forest become the only team to claim all three points at Brentford in 2024/25.

Before last week’s game against Villa, Elanga hadn’t scored since February but like the proverbial bus, he’s now followed up his exploits on home soil with another strike at Brentford.

Elanga was praised by Theo Walcott last week and after scoring again against the Bees he’s shared who he’s been talking to in order to brush up on his finishing and play in the final third.

Anthony Elanga takes advice from Tottenham legend Jermain Defoe

This is intriguing and it appears as though the Forest winger has found a bit of a mentor in Defoe who Elanga claims had text him this week.

He told BBC Sport: “I got a nice message from Jermain Defoe. It’s about getting in the box I want to get myself in areas to score. It’s in the box where you score the most goals.

“I work on that in training, where you build muscle memory. You work on it in training and I want to do that in games as well.”

It was a very fruitful afternoon for Elanga has Espirito Santo chose to go with both of wingers from the off as he opted to go with an extra defender.

Elanga played out on the right wing and did an extremely good job throughout the contest, richly deserving his second goal of the campaign.

Some of the comments about Elanga’s form had been pretty ridiculous and as a young player, there will always be peaks and troughs.

Thankfully, Elanga is backed by Espirito Santo and clearly, he’s starting to gain some confidence from getting the backing of his gaffer.
